Overview

Summary:  In this role you will be responsible for finishing machined aerospace parts by removing burrs, sharp edges, flash, and other irregularities. The technician ensures parts meet strict dimensional, surface finish, and quality standards before the parts proceed to inspection, assembly, or coating. The role often involves hand-finishing, use of precision tools, cleanliness, and adherence to aerospace safety and quality standards.

Responsibilities

Duties and Responsibilities:

Use of hand tools (files, deburring knives, abrasive pads), power tools (grinders, pneumatic tools, belt sanders), and small machinery (e.g., tumblers, barrel finishers) to remove burrs, sharp edges, tool marks, flash, and other defects.

Wash, clean, decrease, or otherwise prepare parts after deburring to meet cleanliness and surface condition requirements.

Inspect parts for dimensional accuracy and conformance to tolerance and surface finish, using measuring tools like calipers, micrometers, depth gauges, profilometers, and microscopes. & identify any non-conforming parts.

Maintain documentation of work: production logs, inspection records, corrective action reports, traceability where required.

Maintain tools, equipment, and workspace: ensure tools are sharp/appropriate, machines are cleaned, PPE used, follow safety, quality, 5S/lean, environmental standards.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

Must be able to read customer provided drawings.

Proficient in the use of customer furnished specifications.

Strong manual dexterity and hand‑eye coordination; ability to handle small/complex parts and delicate finish work.

Familiarity with deburring and finishing tools: hand tools, power tools, pneumatic tools; knowledge of which tools and abrasives are appropriate for materials (Aluminum, Titanium, Stainless, etc.)

Experience with precision measuring instruments (calipers, micrometers, etc.) where needed.

 

Preferred Education/Experience:

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Must have 2 + years of prior deburr experience.
